David Tennant and Catherine Tate reprising their roles for Big Finish.

Audio production company, Big Finish announced today that both David Tennant and Catherine Tate will be reprising their roles as The Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble for a new series of audio adventures.
Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor Adventures will be released in May 2016 and is comprised of three full cast audio adventures.

The series opens with Doctor Who – The Tenth Doctor Adventures: Technophobia by Matt Fitton, which is set in a London slightly in the future, where mankind is gradually losing its ability to use everyday technology. Could there be an evil force at work?

In Doctor Who – The Tenth Doctor Adventures: Time Reaver by Jenny T Colgan the Doctor and Donna arrive on Calibris – ‘An entirely mechanical planet. Catch, hitch, fuel, fix, buy, pretty much any kind of transportation in existence.’ It’s also a world full of scoundrels, where a deadly black market has opened up in a device known only as the Time Reaver.

Finally, in Doctor Who – The Tenth Doctor Adventures: Death and the Queen by James Goss, Donna is swept along in a fairytale romance and meets the man of her dreams in the beautiful land of Goritania. What can possibly go wrong? And why has the Doctor never heard of Goritania?

Fox are developing two shows set in the X-Men Universe

Fox have long wanted to make a TV series set in the X-Men universe, now it seems that they’ve reached an agreement with Marvel, which will not only allow them to develop one TV series set in that universe, but two.

Fox producers Bryan Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner, and Simon Kinberg will colabirate with Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory to bring the shows to our screens.

The first series is called Legion. It’s being written and helmed by Fargo creator Noah Hawley. The second series, Hellfire is being developed by Evan Katz (24: Live Another Day), Manny Coto (24), Patrick McKay (Star Trek 3), and JD Payne (Star Trek 3).

Legion will  introduce us to the story of David Haller, David has battled with mental illness his whole life, he was diagnosed as schizophrenic in his teenage years,  he’s been in and out of various psychiatric facilities for years. After an encounter with a another patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.

I loved Fargo, I thought it was a marvelous adaptation of the Cohen brothers movie. Hawley is a great choice to take on this project and I’m sure he will bring us something magical.

FX said:

“Legion is just the sort of ambitious story that Noah excels at. His adaption of Fargo for television was one of the most acclaimed television events in recent memory. It’s also an honor to partner with Marvel on Legion and to enlist such an accomplished team of Executive Producers to create this pilot.”

Hellfire will be set in the mid-late 1960s, and follows a young Special Agent who learns that a power-hungry woman with extraordinary abilities is working with a clandestine society of millionaires – known as ‘The Hellfire Club’ – to take over the world.

It’s unknown at this point if anyone from the film universe will appear.

I’m very interested to see how these projects turn out. It’s actually surprising that Fox and Marvel have made a deal together, it’s well documented that the two studios don’t see eye-to-eye. Marvel haven’t allowed Fox to release X-Men toys since 2003.

 

Is Miles Moreals in the new Spider-Man movie?

When it was announced that Sony and Marvel would be working together to bring Spider-Man into the MCU. As we know Tom Holland was ultimately cast as Peter Parker, but many fans had hoped Andrew Garfield would return and die heroically as Peter Parker, paving way for Miles Moreales to take over. 

In an interview with Yahoo, the new Spider-Man director Jon Watts was asked if there had been any thoughts about Miles taking over the mantle. What’s interesting is that he hinted that Miles may still be in the film:

“I can’t talk about that, because, you know, that will reveal too much. We’re still writing the story…we haven’t finished all the way through the story yet, so who knows.”

I admit, that isn’t much to go on. But I do suspect that we’ll see Miles pop up at some point. By the time the planned Spider-Man trilogy ends most of the current Marvel actors will be at the end of their contracts and looking to move on. The introduction of Miles Moreales would allow them to refresh the brand without having to completely reboot.

The thick of it cast make a cameo in The Amazing Spider-Man

The cast of the BBC political comedy, The Thick Of It, make a completely unexpected cameo on the cover of December’s issue of The Amazing Spider-Man.

Chris Addison, Peter Capaldi, Joanna Scanlan, Paul Higgins, James Smith and Polly Kemp can all be seen on the cover, sat inside a London bus, whilst Spider-Man is fighting.

Armando Iannucci, the creator of The Thick Of It tweeted the image this morning and asked fans if they knew how the cameo came to be.

“Anyone know why Thick of It cast are in recent Spiderman issue? As a lifelong Marvel fan I’m delighted. And curious.

Spider-Man rumour 

It only took three reboots but, Spider-Man will finally be introduced into the MCU with the Russo brothers Captain America: Civil War. 

Since Tom Holland was cast as the web swinger, rumours have been circulating as to exactly how long he has been Spider-Man within the MCU. 

According to Heroic Hollywood Peter Parker has been Spider-Man for a while, before we meet him in Civil War.

“According to sources, the latest rumour is that Peter Parker has been active as Spider-Man for a little over a year during the events of Captain America: Civil War. Just like Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, Spider-Man is considered a myth, an urban legend.”
I’m sure Tom Holland will be great in the role, but part of me still wishes Andrew Garfield had been kept on. 

Captain America: Civil War will be released on May 6th, 2016.

First look at David Tennant as The Purple Man

Here’s is the first office look at David Tennant as The Purple man in Marvel/Netflix’s Jessica Jones. But, unlike his comic book counterpart, the live action Kilgrave won’t have purple skin. His trademark colour will be represented by a scarf and a suit. 

The Purple Man has the power of suggestion, which allows him to control anybody in close proximity. 

Steven Spielberg talks about Superheroes

Film legend Steven Spielberg has caused a bit of online outrage again, you may remember that a few years ago, he claimed that Hollywood was heading for an “implosion” due to ballooning budgets and recycled film ideas.

Now, he’s spoken out about the Superhero genre.

He said:

“I still feel that way. We were around when the Western died and there will be a time when the superhero movie goes the way of the Western. It doesn’t mean there won’t be another occasion where the Western comes back and the superhero movie someday returns. Of course, right now the superhero movie is alive and thriving. I’m only saying that these cycles have a finite time in popular culture. There will come a day when the mythological stories are

supplanted by some other genre that possibly some young filmmaker is just thinking about discovering for all of us.”

 

Twitter has been ablaze with people criticising the director and even taking stabs at his recent output.

The thing is, Spielberg IS right the superhero bubble will eventually burst, it may be another 20 years from now, but it will happen.

It wasn’t too long ago that a Superhero movie was box office poison that only changed in 1998 when Blade hit and showed there was life in Superhero genre.

Andrew Garfield opens up about Spider-Man

After months of keeping quiet about his experiences on The Amazing Spider-Man movies, Andrew Garfield has started to open up about his time as the wall-crawler. 

In a recent interview, he spoke about Sony bosses wanting to ensure the films had mass appeal:

“The pressure to get it right, to please everyone… it’s not going to happen…You end up pleasing no one, or everyone just a little bit. Like, ‘Eh, that was good.’ The films are mass-marketed, like ‘We want 50-year-old white men to love it, gay teenagers to love it, bigot homophobes in Middle America to love it, 11-year-old girls to love it.’ That’s canning Coke.” 

In the same interview, he spoke about the moment he learned he wouldn’t be involved with Marvel Studios/Sony reboot:

“So that aspect of it was a bummer, especially for the group of us trying to infuse it with soul, trying to make it unique, something that was worth the price of entry. It was about authenticity, flavour, and truth, but at the same time, I understand people want to make a lot of money, and they’re going to spend a lot of money so the playpen can be as big as it was. I can’t live that way; it sounds like a prison, to be honest, living within those expectations.”

 
He also added that he is interested in playing another superhero:

“With a film like The Amazing Spider-Man, there’s so much projection and expectation that is inherent in taking on a story and character like that. I was well up for the challenge, and I still am. I’m not going to shy away from something that a lot of people are going to see. Bring it on, life’s short.”

Personally, I think Garfield was the best Peter Parker/Spider-Man we’ve seen so far. The problems with those movies lay solely with Sony. There were also working on the next film, instead of focusing on the one they were making.

 

I’d be interested in seeing Andrew Garfield play another Superhero, Chris Evans played the Human Torch, then Captain America, Brandon Routh was Superman, then the Atom, and Ben Affleck was Daredevil long before he was Batman. So it is certainly possible.

Tiny Ant-Man tickets hidden around the UK.

I absolutely love this, From tomorrow one hundred ant-sized IMAX tickets will be hidden around three UK cities – London, Manchester and Birmingham – to celebrate the IMAX® 3D release of ANT-MAN in UK cinemas this Friday.

  
The tiny tickets, each measuring just 5 x 10mm, can be exchanged for tickets to the most epic cinematic experience of ANT-MAN at IMAX cinemas across London, Manchester and Birmingham. 
Clues to the locations of the tickets will be posted on IMAX’s Twitter page, beginning today.

Those who are successful in their hunt will be encouraged to tweet a selfie with their tiny ticket to @IMAX using the hashtag #IMAXAntMan.

The tickets will be left at various spots around the cities, each accompanied by a magnifying glass to aid the search.

Jon Bernthal cast as The Punisher 

Rumors have been circulating for a while now, about The Punisher joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. More recently we heard that Frank Castle would appear in Daredevil, and now it’s been confirmed! Marvel announced yesterday that they’ve cast The Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal in the role for series 2. 
Personally, I’ve enjoyed the three previous Punisher movies (yes, even the one with Dolph). 

I think Bernthal is a great choice.

I’ve binged the entire first series twice now and I can’t wait for series 2.
