Netflix confirm Punisher series

One batch. Two batch. A penny. A dime. This will come as no surprise to anyone who watched series 2 of Daredevil because, if you did. You saw this coming. Netflix announced today that they’re officially moving forward with a spin-off series for The Punisher.
Jon Bernthal will be reprising his role Frank Castle.

As I’m sure you’re aware, Bernthal was breath taking as The Punisher and they couldn’t have cast a better actor. He brought gravitas, weight, conviction and, emotion.
The Punisher is the sixth Marvel series ordered by Netflix.

We have Luke Cage to look forward to later this year, with Iron Fist and The Defenders coming next year. Which will be ensemble miniseries, that includes Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Iron Fist and, Luke Cage. It’s currently unknown if The Punisher will be included in that line-up.

The Punisher will be run by writer and executive producer, Steve Lightfoot.

Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb said:

“We want to thank the fans who are clamoring for more of Jon’s stunning and powerful performance as Frank Castle from ‘Marvel’s Daredevil.’ Now combined with Showrunner Steve Lightfoot’s compelling writing, we’re thrilled to bring ‘Marvel’s The Punisher’ to Netflix.”

Netflix Vice President of Original Content, Cindy Holland added:

“Jon hooked our global audience with his performance as Frank Castle from the moment he stepped on screen in ‘Marvel’s Daredevil,’ and we are looking forward to seeing more of him in this role under the vision of Steve Lightfoot.”

Showrunner, Steve Lightfoot said:

“For me, the complexity and unpredictability of Frank Castle make him an incredibly compelling character and I couldn’t be more excited to dive into his world. After watching Jon’s performance in ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ I could not be more excited to be working with him to further develop and progress the story of this anti-hero in a show of his own.”

The Marvel/Netflix partnership has proven to be a hit with fans and critics. I can’t wait to see what they give us with The Punisher. I’ve enjoyed all three of The Punisher movies, but I’ve always felt a character as complex as Frank Castle deserved a TV series.

Trailer-Daredevil series 2

“You know you’re one bad day away from being me.”
Today, Netflix released the first full trailer for series two of Daredevil, and it’s pretty spectacular.
We’ve finally been given a proper look at Frank Castle/The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) and he looks fantastic.

Here’s the synopsis:

Just when Matt thinks he is bringing order back to the city, new forces are rising in Hell’s Kitchen. Now the Man Without Fear must take on a new adversary in Frank Castle and face an old flame – Elektra Natchios.
Bigger problems emerge when Frank Castle, a man looking for vengeance, is reborn as The Punisher, a man who takes justice into his own hands in Matt’s neighborhood. Meanwhile, Matt must balance his duty to his community as a lawyer and his dangerous life as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, facing a life-altering choice that forces him to truly understand what it means to be a hero.

The series sees Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Rosario Dawson all reprise their roles from series one. With the addition of Élodie Yung as Electra.

Series 2 goes live on March 18th, 2016.

Matt Murdoch will cameo in Jessica Jones

With Just under a month to go until we’re all binge watching Jessica Jones on Netflix, news has broke that Matt Murdoch will appear in the latest Marvel/Netflix collabration.

According to friend of Bad Wilf, Jon Schnepp Daredevil will definitely be making an appearance in Jessica Jones. We knew one day they would eventually meet, but I wasn’t sure if they would do it so soon, though. Schnepp says:

“You’re definitely gonna see Matt Murdock in Jessica Jones. That’s a fact. He’s in it. I don’t know how they interact, but he’s in the series.”

All four of the Netflix/Marvel series take place in the same corner of Hells kitchen and Daredevil was a huge hit for Netflix back in March, they’d be crazy not include him in some way.

Check out Jon Schnepp talking about it in the video below.

Jessica Jones is available on Netflix from the 20th of November.

Jon Bernthal cast as The Punisher

Rumors have been circulating for a while now, about The Punisher joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. More recently we heard that Frank Castle would appear in Daredevil, and now it’s been confirmed! Marvel announced yesterday that they’ve cast The Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal in the role for series 2.
Personally, I’ve enjoyed the three previous Punisher movies (yes, even the one with Dolph).

I think Bernthal is a great choice.

Marvel said:

“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences. Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”

I’ve binged the entire first series twice now and I can’t wait for series 2.

Joss Whedon wanted a Daredevil movie

Joss Whedon is currently doing the press tour for Avengers:Age of Ultron (review coming soon). During one such interview, Whedon revealed that he actually fought with Marvel to make it a film, instead of a TV series.

He said:

“I fought for Daredevil to be a film instead of a TV show. Then under the auspices of Drew Goddard and Steven DeKnight.  I’m dying to see the show but they released it just as I started the press tour. If the show’s working, the show’s working. Comic books are serialised entertainment and a lot of them lend themselves to TV shows as much or more than they do to movies. I like Daredevil because he’s basically Marvel’s Batman, thanks to Frank Miller basically. So for me I didn’t think they’d be able to sustain that sort of mood on TV but TV has changed so much. It’s come up so much that I think it might just be the right place.”

Marvel kicked off the first of its four Netflix shows earlier this month, with Daredevil. The 13-part series landed on our devices on April the 10th. I’ve already binge watched it twice (review coming soon).

Ultimately, I think Marvel were right to go for a series. Netflix allows them to enter the slightly grittier side of the MCU, that mainstream American networks would never allow. I really hope the rumoured Netflix Punisher show is true.

Ryan Phillippe playing Iron Fist?

Ryan Phillippe has revealed that he has been in talks with Marvel to star in one of their upcoming Netflix shows. He didn’t specifically say what role he was up for, but Iron Fist is the only logical conclusion, as it’s the only main character whose casting as not yet been announced.

People have speculated that he may be playing Bullseye in series 2 of Daredevil, but that’s very unlikely as they haven’t even begun scripting that yet.

Marvel fans may remember that he was very nearly Captain America a few years back. I think Phillippe is a great choice for Iron Fist.

The Defenders

Netflix and Disney have struck a deal
with ABC to co-produce four Marvel superheroes TV series, to be streamed exclusively on Netflix.
The first series’ will be Daredevil, followed by Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage.
The four serialised storyline’s will culminate in an Avengers-style superhero team-up, which will take place in a Netflix original film called The Defenders.
As ABC is involved there is always the possibility of an agents of shield cross-over.

I’m excited by this news, Netflix has a fairly great track record and producing original content.
However the series I most want to see is The Punisher, let’s just hope that happens.
