Frank Miller working on Dark Knight sequel

Well, here’s some news I didn’t see coming. Frank Miller is writing the third part in his Dark Knight trilogy.

Titled ‘The Dark Knight III:The master race, the story will pick up where the 1986 story ‘The Dark Knight strikes back’ left off. The Dark Knight returns is hailed as the bible to Batman fans, year strikes back was less well received.

Miller will be joined by DC writer Brian Azzarello (Batman: Flashpoint, Wonder Woman). The story will span eight issues. It will be published twice a month, from this autumn.

Miller said:

“Batman remains my favourite comic book hero and a sequel to Dark Knight is going to be daunting, but we’ll do our best.”

I’m excited by this news, I hope that Miller can rekindle the magic he had with the Dark Knight Returns.

Sony announce animated Spider-Man movie

Sony Pictures announced yesterday that they are developing an animated film based on the exploits of Spidey. I’m excited by this news, as they’ve hired The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller to write and produce the feature.

The movie has been given the US release date of July 20th, 2018.

The animated movie will not be connected to the new Spider-Man universe that Marvel and Sony are building. I’ve long been a fan of the short lived MTV/Sony series from 2003, starring Neil Patrick Harris. I think there is room for an animated Spider-Man, but they should go the series route.

Having said that, I do hope the movie succeeds.

Trailer-The Death of superman lives:What happened?

The final trailer has been released for The death of Superman lives:What Happened?

The documentary is directed by Jon Schnepp and is a fascinating look into the failed Tim Burton Superman project.  The Death of Superman Live: What Happened?

It includes interviews with Tim Burton, Jon Peters, screenwriters Kevin Smith and Dan Gilroy, and many, many more more.

As a life long Superman fan, I have long been interested in the details of this failed project. This documentary seems to be the most insightful look we’ll get.

The film is released worldwide onJuly 9th, via streaming, DVD, Blu-ray, and VOD.

The defenders to appear with the avengers?

The MCU is  constantly growing and expanded with all different kinds of spin-off’s being commissioned. ABC have agents of shield, agent Carter and an as of yet untitled Shield spin-off.

Over at Netflix they have Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist.

The Netflix  heroes make up a team called The Defenders. The Avengers take on global threats like alien invasions, the defenders take on local threats like mobsters.

According to recent rumours the Defenders will appear in Avengers:infinity war part 2. I don’t doubt that the defenders will appear on the big screen, however, I think they will first appear in Captain America:Civil war.

By the time Avengers: Infinity War roles around in 2018, the MCU will have changed drastically. The avengers line-up will be different and we will have been introduced to characters such as; Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Spider-Man.

Do you think the grittier side of the MCU has a place in the Avengers? Let us know below.

Wonder Woman loses director

Not much is known at the moment, but Warner Bros. have released a press release stating that Michelle Maclaren will no longer direct Wonder Woman.

The studio said:

“Given creative differences, Warner Bros. and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct Wonder Woman together.”

Warner Brothers have been very outspoken about hiring a female director for this project, I hope they can find someone in time for the 2017 release date.

Universal still own solo Hulk rights

Fans have been screaming for a solo Hulk movie since Mark Ruffalo first smashed his way on to screen.

Whilst doing press for Avengers:Age of ultron, Ruffalo revealed why we haven’t yet seen a Hulk movie.

“As far as a Hulk movie, a standalone Hulk movie, Marvel doesn’t really have the rights to that yet. That’s still Universal’s property, so there’s that issue. That’s a big impediment to moving forward with that. Now I don’t think that’s insurmountable, by the way, but I don’t know where it’s going from here for me”.

Because Universal has distribution rights for a solo Hulk film, that does make a solo film difficult for Marvel. But a few years ago, we thought a Sony/Marvel deal was a pipe dream so a universal/Marvel deal isn’t impossible.

X-Men rumour

Three things are certain in life, death, taxes, and that Fox will never make an X-Men film without an appearance from Hugh Jackman.

It’s rumoured that Wolverine and Storm will appear in cameos, alongside Chanming Tatum as gambit in X-Men:Apocalypse. The movie starts shooting soon and will also mark Jennifer Lawrence’s last turn as Mystique.

Ruth Negga cast in Preacher

Ruth Negga (Misfits.) has been cast as the female lead in Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Preacher series for AMC.

Preacher is based on a 90’s comic by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon.

The book follows Jesse Custer, a Texas preacher whom has the ability to make anyone do anything he says.

Negga is the first actor cast in the pilot and will take the role of Jesse’s ex-girlfriend, Tulip,  who joins him on a quest to literally find God.

She’s described as:

a volatile, action-packed, sexified force of nature, a capable, unrepentant criminal with a love of fashion and ability to construct helicopter-downing bazookas out of coffee cans and corn shine who’s not afraid to steal, kill or corn cob-stab her way out of a bad situation.
