Film review-Paddington

I have a confession to make, my dear reader. When I was first invited to the premiere of Paddington, I turned down the tickets. I mean, who wants to see a movie about a talking bear who wears a duffel coat and carries a suitcase? Plus, the early images of Paddington made him look creepy, like he was about to go on a killing spree. And when Colin Firth dropped out of the film just before its release, I thought, “Well, that’s the final nail in the coffin.”

But then something unexpected happened. Word of mouth started spreading after that first screening. People were raving about the film, calling it “the best film in a decade”. I couldn’t ignore the buzz any longer. So I took my kids to see it on opening night. And I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. Paddington is a delightful movie that had me grinning from ear to ear.

Based on Michael Bond’s beloved children’s book series, Paddington follows the adventures of a lovable brown bear who travels from Peru to London in search of a new home. The film strikes the perfect balance between playful slapstick and heartfelt warmth, thanks to director Paul King’s clever and imaginative storytelling. The scenes that humanise the story and characters are particularly touching, as we see Paddington adjusting to life with the Brown family in London.

Sure, the subplot featuring Nicole Kidman’s villainous character feels a bit forced and out of place. But overall, the film is a joy to watch, thanks to its excellent performances, seamless mix of CGI and live-action, and the stunning visual flair brought to the film by King.

In short, if you’re looking for a smart and entertaining family movie, look no further than Paddington. It’s a modern classic that towers above most of the other PG-rated films out there. Trust me, you won’t regret giving this charming little bear a chance.

Christoph Waltz to play Blofeld

In a highly-anticipated announcement, it was confirmed today that Christoph Waltz, best known for his role in “Django Unchained,” will play classic Bond villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld in the upcoming Bond 24 film.

Blofeld’s character has been the subject of legal battles for decades, but with MGM settling a lawsuit last year with writer Kevin McClory over the rights to SPECTRE and Blofeld, the iconic villain is set to make a comeback.

As one of the most recognizable villains in the Bond franchise, it’s no surprise that MGM would want him back, and Waltz seems like the perfect fit for the role. Fans are eagerly anticipating what the talented actor will bring to the character.

Directed once again by Sam Mendes, shooting for the film is scheduled to start in January, with a release date set for November 6th, 2015. Bond enthusiasts can hardly wait to see what the film has in store.

Peter Capaldi confirmed for series 9 and 10

It’s no secret that I’ve not been a fan of the latest series of Doctor Who. I found the writing to be weak and repetitive.
I did however respond well to Peter Capaldi and I’m delighted to hear that he is set to reprise his role as the twelfth Doctor in the ninth and tenth series of Doctor Who.
I just hope the writing improves.

The news was confirmed by current showrunner Stephen Moffat, at the series 8 DVD launch.

At present there isn’t any information regarding Jenna Coleman’s involvement in series 9. I guess they’re making us wait until Christmas to find out.

I’m not alone in my disappointment with the series, a Twitter hashtag #sackmoffat was launched after the disappointing series finale.

However, those involved in the show seem happy with the end result.

Danny Cohen, controller of BBC One said:

“It’s been an outstanding debut series for Peter Capaldi as Doctor Who and I’m very grateful to Peter, Steven Moffat and everyone involved.”
The Doctor can next be seen on Christmas Day.

Clip-Doctor Who Christmas special

I found the whole of series 8 to be a complete mess. So I’m approaching the Christmas special with a huge amount of trepidation. I’ll probably skip the broadcast and watch it on Boxing Day.

In this clip from the upcoming Christmas special Santa Claus and his elves (No, seriously) are talking to Clara when they get disturbed by the Doctor.

It was also announced this week that Steven Moffat will still act as show runner for series 9.

Fans of the series have recently started the hashtag #sackmoffat.

Star Wars title app

Yesterday Disney/Lucasfilm announced the title for the highly anticipated Episode VII.
I, along with many other people were less than impressed with the title.
Now, thanks to the verge you can now create your own title, with this fun app. I decided to create the fans worst nightmare ‘Jar-Jar strikes back’.

Jenna Coleman talks about the Doctor Who Christmas Special

Since 2005 the Doctor Who Christmas special has become something of an annual tradition, fastly snatching the crown form the BBC’s former darling, only fools and horses.

Speaking to +InStyle, Doctor Who’s current companion, Jenna Coleman said: “It’s written in sections and it’s about dreaming – what is real and what is not.”

She also added: “Father Christmas is there – played by Nick Frost!”

She also spoke about what she plans to do once Clara says goodbye to the Doctor: “There are no grand plans. I’d like to do some theatre, get back into the rehearsal room. I think it’s all about surrounding yourself with really clever, talented people so you can soak up some of their brilliance!”

This year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special will air on Christmas Day (25th December) on BBC One. It will see Peter Capaldi’s Doctor, team up with Father Christmas.

The current series ends tomorrow night with a 60-minute episode.
