Torchwood is coming back….on audio

During a press conference for the CW show Arrow, John Barrowman, who is now a series regular on the show, announced that the BBC is producing “three or four” audio dramas based on the popular series Torchwood. Barrowman, who portrayed Captain Jack Harkness on the show, also revealed that he and his sister Carole E. Barrowman are considering writing one of the dramas. The siblings have previously co-written Torchwood novels and comics together.

Barrowman didn’t provide any details about the timeframe or plot for the audio dramas, or whether they take place before or after the events of Miracle Day. However, he did mention that at least one of the stories will feature the original Torchwood team and that Torchwood producers Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner will also be involved. With the last Torchwood episode airing four years ago, fans of the show will undoubtedly be thrilled to hear about these upcoming audio dramas.

Lando Calrissian joins Star Wars:Rebels

Billy Dee Williams’ return in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” remains unknown, some speculate that the filmmakers may be saving his appearance for Episode 8. As a beloved character who first appeared in the original trilogy’s second installment, his comeback in the new trilogy’s second film would make for a satisfying nod to the franchise’s history.

For fans who can’t wait for Lando’s return, there’s good news. Williams will be reprising his role in the eleventh episode of Series 1, titled “Idiot’s Array.” In this episode, Zeb loses Chopper in a game of Sabacc to none other than Lando Calrissian.

Williams is now the third original trilogy star to make a comeback, following James Earl Jones as Darth Vader and Frank Oz as Yoda. It’s an exciting time for fans to see their favorite characters return to the big screen.

Marvel and Sony close to making a deal?

A few more details have started to leak through about the Sony/Marvel deal.
Previously it had looked like Sony would licence out Spider-Man for Marvel to do with as they pleased. Now, it seems that it would be a straight down the middle collaboration between the two companies.
The deal would see Marvel able to use Spider-Man, in turn Sony would be able to use any two Marvel characters.

That deal sounds pretty sensible to me. It’s probably too late in the day for Spidey to swing in to civil war, but I fully expect him to appear in Avengers:Infinity War.
I really hope it works, it would open the doors for collaborations between other studios.

Marvel wanted Spider-Man for infinity war as well as Civil War

The Sony hack continues to reveal intriguing details about Marvel’s plans for Spider-Man. Recently, it was revealed that Marvel approached Sony about including the web-slinger in “Captain America: Civil War” and the two-part “Avengers: Infinity War.”

According to reports, Marvel wanted to launch a new Spider-Man series following his appearance in “Civil War.” Although the new films wouldn’t directly continue the “Civil War” plot, it would be clear that they existed in the same universe.

In the proposed storyline, Tony Stark recruits Spider-Man for the Avengers, and he joins them on a mission before returning to Sony for his own solo movie. After that, he would return to assist in the two-part “Avengers: Infinity War,” with Sony releasing a second Spider-Man movie in 2019.

While the idea of Spider-Man teaming up with the Avengers is exciting, some fans lament the loss of Andrew Garfield, who played the role in the previous two movies. He was the saving grace of those films. Regardless, it remains to be seen who will ultimately don the Spider-Man suit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Christoph Waltz to play Blofeld

In a highly-anticipated announcement, it was confirmed today that Christoph Waltz, best known for his role in “Django Unchained,” will play classic Bond villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld in the upcoming Bond 24 film.

Blofeld’s character has been the subject of legal battles for decades, but with MGM settling a lawsuit last year with writer Kevin McClory over the rights to SPECTRE and Blofeld, the iconic villain is set to make a comeback.

As one of the most recognizable villains in the Bond franchise, it’s no surprise that MGM would want him back, and Waltz seems like the perfect fit for the role. Fans are eagerly anticipating what the talented actor will bring to the character.

Directed once again by Sam Mendes, shooting for the film is scheduled to start in January, with a release date set for November 6th, 2015. Bond enthusiasts can hardly wait to see what the film has in store.

Peter Capaldi confirmed for series 9 and 10

It’s no secret that I’ve not been a fan of the latest series of Doctor Who. I found the writing to be weak and repetitive.
I did however respond well to Peter Capaldi and I’m delighted to hear that he is set to reprise his role as the twelfth Doctor in the ninth and tenth series of Doctor Who.
I just hope the writing improves.

The news was confirmed by current showrunner Stephen Moffat, at the series 8 DVD launch.

At present there isn’t any information regarding Jenna Coleman’s involvement in series 9. I guess they’re making us wait until Christmas to find out.

I’m not alone in my disappointment with the series, a Twitter hashtag #sackmoffat was launched after the disappointing series finale.

However, those involved in the show seem happy with the end result.

Danny Cohen, controller of BBC One said:

“It’s been an outstanding debut series for Peter Capaldi as Doctor Who and I’m very grateful to Peter, Steven Moffat and everyone involved.”
The Doctor can next be seen on Christmas Day.

Jenna Coleman talks about the Doctor Who Christmas Special

Since 2005 the Doctor Who Christmas special has become something of an annual tradition, fastly snatching the crown form the BBC’s former darling, only fools and horses.

Speaking to +InStyle, Doctor Who’s current companion, Jenna Coleman said: “It’s written in sections and it’s about dreaming – what is real and what is not.”

She also added: “Father Christmas is there – played by Nick Frost!”

She also spoke about what she plans to do once Clara says goodbye to the Doctor: “There are no grand plans. I’d like to do some theatre, get back into the rehearsal room. I think it’s all about surrounding yourself with really clever, talented people so you can soak up some of their brilliance!”

This year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special will air on Christmas Day (25th December) on BBC One. It will see Peter Capaldi’s Doctor, team up with Father Christmas.

The current series ends tomorrow night with a 60-minute episode.

Episode 124:Extraterrestrial

In which Martyn gets his own name wrong, yes, he was that tired.

He and Gerrod then talk about the latest DC/Marvel news and the new movie from the Vicious Brothers, Extraterrestrial.

Extraterrestrial (also known under the working title of The Visitors) is a 2014 American science fictionhorror film that was directed by Colin Minihan, based on a script by both Vicious Brothers. It stars Brittany Allen, Freddie Stroma, and Melanie Papalia as a group of friends who must defend themselves against an alien onslaught.

Holy Hi-Def! Batman ’66 on Blu-Ray

Batman Blu-Ray set

It’s about bat-time but not a moment too soon! I can still remember being delighted and terrified by reruns of the 1966 Batman TV series, from the age of four onwards. From 10th November 2014 it will at last go on sale for Batman’s 75th anniversary, with the original film prints presented in high definition, Blu-Ray™ glory.

At the dawn of colour television, producer William Dozier adapted Bob Kane’s superhero comic in an intentionally vivid manner, from the rainbow colours of costumes, props and lighting to dramatic camera work and the lush physical texture of everything in vision. Batman comics of that era were straightforward adventures but with oodles of absurdity: adapted faithfully into live action they came off extremely camp. Resisting the temptation to cushion the spectacle with a laugh track gave Batman its signature feel.

Because a film studio brought Batman to telly, an army of Hollywood film stars were at hand. Each celebrity ‘did a turn,’ taking the campy spirit of the programme very much to heart. This luxury would also keep the programme off shelves for decades, mired in conflicts with actors’ contracts and studio ownership. Now all differences have been resolved and the wait is over!
