Comic review-Spider-Man: Life Story

Spider-Man: Life Story, penned by Chip Zdarsky and illustrated by Mark Bagley, is a masterpiece that should grace the bookshelves of any Spidey aficionado. The new hardcover edition, released in August 2021, collects the entire six-issue series along with Spider-Man: Life Story Annual #1.

The series is a realistic portrayal of Peter Parker’s life, exploring how he ages in real-time and how he experiences historical events such as the Vietnam War. Starting in 1966, a few years after Parker was bitten by the radioactive spider, the story progresses through the decades, offering a fresh take on classic Spider-Man tales.

The second issue, set in 1977, stands out as it introduces new revelations and twists on familiar characters. Peter Parker enjoys a happy life, working alongside another superhero under his real identity, and sharing a significant role with Gwen Stacy. However, Zdarsky’s masterful storytelling culminates in a devastating turn of events, leading to a gripping and emotional tale.

As the story unfolds, new characters like Miles Morales are introduced, and the Symbiote costume is explored in-depth, offering a unique take on the Spider-Man mythos. Bagley’s artwork, with inkers John Dell and Andrew Hennessy and color artist Frank D’Armata (and Matt Milla on the Annual), captures the classic look of Spider-Man comics, while adding a fresh touch to the story.

The Annual issue, focusing on J. Jonah Jameson, is a standout story that ties into Spider-Man’s narrative, creating a nuanced and layered narrative that elevates the main series. Zdarsky’s writing showcases Jameson’s journey of redemption and hope, resulting in a story that will resonate with readers on a deeper level.

Spider-Man: Life Story is a remarkable tale that celebrates Spider-Man in a new and inventive way. Zdarsky and Bagley have created a timeless work that will be remembered as one of the greatest Spider-Man stories of all time. While the extras in the hardcover, including variant covers and Zdarsky’s cover art process, are nice additions, the main series remains the heart of the book. In summary, Spider-Man: Life Story is a must-read for any fan of the friendly neighborhood web-slinger.

Review-The year of Martha Jones

The Master has emerged victorious, stealing humanity’s future and imprisoning his nemesis, the Doctor. With an army of deadly Toclafane, he now rules over Earth. But amidst the despair and destruction, there is still hope. Martha Jones has escaped and is wandering the planet, sharing stories of the Doctor to remind people of his heroism and give them a glimmer of hope.

What’s often overlooked in Martha’s companion narrative is the year she spent alone, battling the Master’s tyranny and trying to maintain her sanity in a world turned upside down. Although we know she succeeded in her mission, we never saw how she did it.

“The Year of Martha Jones” is a unique blend of humour, action, and great storytelling that explores Martha’s journey in detail. She becomes a mythological figure, admired by some as a beacon of hope, while others doubt her intentions and wonder if she has the plan to assassinate the Master.

But at her core, Martha is just a human being struggling to survive in a world gone mad. She’s witnessed unimaginable horrors, and her constant loneliness and paranoia make it hard to trust anyone. Yet she remains steadfast in her hope that the Doctor will return and save humanity.

The audio production is elevated by the outstanding performances of Freema Agyeman and Adjoa Andoh, who play mother and daughter in the story. They have a natural chemistry that makes their scenes together feel authentic and emotionally resonant. The supporting cast also shines, with standout performances from Ewart James Walters and Serin Ibrahim.

“The Year of Martha Jones” is a poignant and reflective story that explores human resilience in the face of overwhelming odds. It’s a testament to Freema Agyeman’s growth as an actress and her ability to bring depth and nuance to a beloved character. It’s a must-listen for any Doctor Who fan, and I hope we get to hear more from Martha in the future.

Colin Farrell to star in a spin-off to The Batman

According to Variety, Colin Farrell is set to reprise his role as The Penguin, in a spin-off series to The Batman.

Farrell will play the character for the first time in Robert Pattinson’s “The Batman,” which will be released in March 2022.
After then, the series is said to focus on The Penguin’s ascent to prominence in the Gotham criminal underground.
The series was first announced in September, though Farrell was not involved at the time. It’s thought the series will be an adaptation of the comic Penguin Triumphant, from 1992.

Lauren LeFranc has been tapped to pen the series.
Matt Reeves, the director of “The Batman,” and Dylan Clark, the film’s producer, will executive produce the Penguin series under their 6th & Idaho and Dylan Clark Productions labels, respectively.

Warner Bros. Television would be in charge of the production. It will air on HBO Max, in the US.

The Penguin, a.k.a. Oswald Cobblepot, is a well-known member of the Batman Rogues Gallery, distinguished by his top hat, monocle, and a vast range of lethal umbrellas.
Burgess Meredith, Danny DeVito, and Robin Lord Taylor have all previously played the character in live-action films and TV series.

Penguin will be HBO Max’s second spin-off series from “The Batman.” Joe Barton is attached as the showrunner for a drama based within the Gotham Police Department, which has already been ordered by the streaming service. It will adapt the Gotham Central line of comics.


WarnerMedia is attempting to create a new, integrated Batman universe that spans all of the company’s platforms.

Other live-action DC shows in development at HBO Max include John Cena’s “Suicide Squad” spin-off “Peacemaker,” a “Green Lantern” series from Greg Berlanti, and a “Justice League Dark” series from J.J. Abrams, among others. “The Batman” and its two spin-offs have been confirmed as taking place on Earth 2.

Kevin Feige confirms Charlie Cox will stay on as Daredevil

Kevin Feige has announced that Charlie Cox will continue to play Daredevil, which will come as no surprise to Marvel fans who have been following various behind-the-scenes speculations and intriguing MCU leaks.

Charlie Cox recently said that he expects to still continue on in the role, one day.

Feige spoke very carefully, as he spoke to CineBlend:

“If you were to see Daredevil in upcoming things, Charlie Cox, yes, would be the actor playing Daredevil. Where we see that how we see that, when we see that, remains to be seen.”

Personally, I don’t think we’ll be waiting too long to see Matt Murdoch. After the events of Spider-Man: Far from home. Peter Parker is going to need a lawyer. Murdoch represented him in the comics, so an appearance in the upcoming Spider-Man: No way home just makes sense.

The reappearance of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin was also hinted at in a recent episode of Hawkeye.
In the same episode, Maya Lopez, AKA Echo, was introduced, a figure is known for her connections to Matt Murdock in Marvel Comics, and it’s been announced that Alaqua Cox will play Lopez in an Echo spin-off series that could easily include Daredevil and Kingpin.

Spider-Man: No way home is due for release in the UK, on the 15th of December.

Teaser Trailer-Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (Part One).

In my opinion, Spider-Man: Into the spider-verse is the best Spider-Man film of all time. So, I am eagerly anticipating the sequel.

Sony Pictures released a teaser trailer today, as well as news that it’ll be two films, not just one. Like we were expecting.

The first teaser picks up where the last Spider-Verse film left off, with Miles (Shameik Moore) laying in bed before a gateway to Gwen Stacy’s universe (Hailee Steinfeld) opens.

From there, it appears that Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) will strive to outdo the first film’s already great animation, with Miles hopping between numerous animated universes in a variety of graphic styles as he battles Spider-Man 2099. (Oscar Isaac, who voiced the character in the post-credit scene of the first movie.)

According to the official synopsis, the sequel will “transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.”

Details such as the villain etc are being kept under wraps for now.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) is set for release in October 2022, with Part Two set to follow in 2023.

Sylvester McCoy cast in The Munsters

Rob Zombie took to Instagram last night, to update us on the latest development of his “The Munsters” reboot.

He gave us our first look at Igor, whom he describes as “the family’s trusty servant.”
Igor appears to be a new character, not to be confused with Grandpa’s pet bat of the same name or the Cousin Igor featured in the film “The Munsters’ Revenge.”

Sylvester McCoy will be playing the role.

McCoy is best-known for his roles in two huge franchises: from 1987 to 1989, he was the seventh Doctor in Doctor Who-a role he still plays for Big Finish. He also played Radagast the brown in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy. He also had a prominant role in Netflix’s Sense8.

The Munsters is based on a two-season sitcom that aired on NBC in 1964.
Despite its relatively brief existence, it developed a cult following and inspired spin-off programmes and films. A reboot series was attempted in 2012, starring Eddie Izzard.

The film adaption, will be a Peacock exclusive. Written and directed by Zombie.

Alec Baldwin claims he didn’t fire the gun

Alec Baldwin claims he “didn’t pull the trigger” on the gun that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during the filming of his latest movie, ‘Rust’.

In his first sit-down interview since the tragic October event, he told ABC News:

“I would never point a gun at anyone and pull a trigger at them. Never.”

On the set of Rust in New Mexico, Hutchins was shot while Baldwin practised with what he thought was a “cold” (safe) gun. It’s thought the gun discharged when he removed it from a holster, during rehearsals for a scene.

Hutchins was flown to hospital by helicopter, but later died of the injury.

When asked how he thinks a live round made it’s way on to set, Baldwin said:

“I have no idea. Someone put a live bullet into a gun. A bullet that wasn’t even supposed to be on the property.”

Court records indicate that Dave Halls, the film’s associate director, handed the firearm to Baldwin, who had no idea it was loaded with live ammo and signalled it was emptied by saying “cold gun.” Halls had been given the gun by Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the 24-year-old armorer on the film.

An armorer on the film set, is responsible for checking all firearms are safe to use.

The investigation is on going.

Cobie Smulders to play Maria Hill in Secret Invasion

In Marvel’s Secret Invasion series, Cobie Smulders will reprise her role as Maria Hill in the MCU, and she will once again star opposite Samuel L. Jackson, who will be reprising his role as Nick Fury.

Smulders joins Ben Mendelsohn, Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Christopher McDonald, and Killian Scott.

The Disney+ series “centres around Fury and Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) — who first met during the events of Captain Marvel — and a faction of shape-shifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years.”

Smulders has appeared in a number of Marvel films, including Spider-Man: Far From Home, Captain America: Civil War, and the Avengers films.
