Kevin Feige confirms Charlie Cox will stay on as Daredevil

Kevin Feige has announced that Charlie Cox will continue to play Daredevil, which will come as no surprise to Marvel fans who have been following various behind-the-scenes speculations and intriguing MCU leaks.

Charlie Cox recently said that he expects to still continue on in the role, one day.

Feige spoke very carefully, as he spoke to CineBlend:

“If you were to see Daredevil in upcoming things, Charlie Cox, yes, would be the actor playing Daredevil. Where we see that how we see that, when we see that, remains to be seen.”

Personally, I don’t think we’ll be waiting too long to see Matt Murdoch. After the events of Spider-Man: Far from home. Peter Parker is going to need a lawyer. Murdoch represented him in the comics, so an appearance in the upcoming Spider-Man: No way home just makes sense.

The reappearance of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin was also hinted at in a recent episode of Hawkeye.
In the same episode, Maya Lopez, AKA Echo, was introduced, a figure is known for her connections to Matt Murdock in Marvel Comics, and it’s been announced that Alaqua Cox will play Lopez in an Echo spin-off series that could easily include Daredevil and Kingpin.

Spider-Man: No way home is due for release in the UK, on the 15th of December.

Film review-King of thieves

King of Thieves is a heist film based on the true story of a group of retirees attempting one last job. Led by Michael Caine, the impressive cast includes Ray Winstone, Jim Broadbent, Michael Gambon, Tom Courtenay, Paul Whitehouse, and Charlie Cox as the only younger member of the team. While the film starts off fun and exciting, it loses momentum in the last third, with the epilogue being written on a black screen feeling a little off.

Broadbent is fantastic as the lovable but sometimes grumpy Terry Perkins, with Winstone and Gambon adding to the mix with their own unique personalities. Cox does good work as the odd man out, but his character feels incomplete, possibly due to the writing and/or directing.

The film’s look is typical of a heist movie with English garden scenery, giving it a familiar feel for fans of UK entertainment. The cinematography by Danny Cohen adds to this atmosphere and the editing by Jinx Godfrey and Nick Moore brings a dynamic to the action. The set decoration by Celia Bobak and costume design by Consolata Boyle make the film feel realistic within its settings.

King of Thieves is an interesting take on heist films, with its unique crew of retirees. The cast is superbly acted, with the younger Cox holding his own alongside the seasoned veterans. While the film loses steam in the last third, it still provides a fun experience overall, with a bird’s eye view into an infamous UK crime.

Joss Whedon wanted a Daredevil movie 

Joss Whedon is currently doing the press tour for Avengers:Age of Ultron (review coming soon). During one such interview, Whedon revealed that he actually fought with Marvel to make it a film, instead of a TV series. 

He said: 

“I fought for Daredevil to be a film instead of a TV show. Then under the auspices of Drew Goddard and Steven DeKnight.  I’m dying to see the show but they released it just as I started the press tour. If the show’s working, the show’s working. Comic books are serialised entertainment and a lot of them lend themselves to TV shows as much or more than they do to movies. I like Daredevil because he’s basically Marvel’s Batman, thanks to Frank Miller basically. So for me I didn’t think they’d be able to sustain that sort of mood on TV but TV has changed so much. It’s come up so much that I think it might just be the right place.”

Marvel kicked off the first of its four Netflix shows earlier this month, with Daredevil. The 13-part series landed on our devices on April the 10th. I’ve already binge watched it twice (review coming soon).

Ultimately, I think Marvel were right to go for a series. Netflix allows them to enter the slightly grittier side of the MCU, that mainstream American networks would never allow. I really hope the rumoured Netflix Punisher show is true.
