Meet the cast of Doctor Who spin-off, Class

The wait is over, we finally have our first look at the cast of Class.

Class takes place in the same universe as Doctor Who and, is set in contemporary London at Coal Hill School. The eight-part series starts filming in a few weeks.

On the first day of term, BBC Three today announce the stars of the Doctor Who spin-off series Class – exciting young new talents Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins and Vivian Oparah. They will be joined by Katherine Kelly, as she takes the role of a teacher and powerful new presence at Coal Hill School.

Like all sixth formers, these four Coal Hill School students have hidden secrets and desires. They are facing their own worst fears, navigating a life of friends, parents, school work, sex, sorrow – and possibly the end of existence.

Coal Hill School has been a part of the Doctor Who Universe since the very beginning, but that has come at a price. All the time travelling over the years has caused the very walls of space and time to become thin. There’s something pressing in on the other side, something waiting for its chance to kill everyone and everything, to bring us all into Shadow.

Fear is coming, tragedy is coming, war is coming. Prepare yourselves, Class is coming.

Class creator Patrick Ness, says:

“We searched far and wide for this amazing cast, fantastic actors who understand what we’re aiming for with this show. And how lucky we are to get Katherine Kelly! She’s been stunning in Happy Valley, The Night Manager and Mr Selfridge, just wait until you see her here.”

Steven Moffat, Class and Doctor Who Executive Producer, says:

“There’s nothing more exciting than meeting stars that nobody’s heard of yet. We had the read through of the first few episodes last week, and there was a whole row of them. Coal Hill School has been part of Doctor Who since the very first shoot in 1963, but this new show is anything but history. Class is dark and sexy and right now. I’ve always wondered if there could be a British Buffy – it’s taken the brilliant Patrick Ness to figure out how to make it happen.”

Class is a YA series set in contemporary London. It is scary, funny, and as painful and sharp as youth. It will also shine a light on a whole new corner of the Whoniverse.

Damian Kavanagh, Controller, BBC Three, adds:

“I can’t wait for Class to arrive on BBC Three. BBC Three will always back best young British talent.”

BBC Three announced the cast in a 360 video.

Zack Snyder explains Robin’s death

I know I’m going against the grain here, but I actually enjoyed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It was a deeply flawed movie, but it wasn’t as bad as people want it to be.

If you have seen the movie, then you know that there are glimpse into the DCU. One of those involves a Robin suit, in a glass display case with “HAHAHA The Joke’s On You Batman” graffitied on it.

Batman V Superman director Zack Snyder sat down with IGN, to explain that scene:

“In my mind, it was that Robin had died 10 years earlier, during some run-in with a young Joker, so there was a fun backstory there to play with. I felt like the whole idea was that there had been loss and there had been sacrifice. In a weird way, he had sacrificed everything to be Batman. He doesn’t really have a life outside the cave. I thought that including Robin, a dead Robin, was helping us understand that he’s been on quite a little journey.”

Update on #drwhodaniel

Most of you will be aware that over the Christmas period, we teamed up with our good friends at Geeksynsicate, to help a very ill Doctor Who fan have a truly great Christmas.

For those of you unaware, Daniel is a very ill 14-year old, who also happens to be massive Doctor Who fan. He was originally admitted to a London hospital in November 2015 and is still there, he was recently moved to the intensive care unit.

He suffers from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) and Postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS) he is totally bed bound and is fed via IV.

We had a tremendous start to the campaign, but since society’s christmas spirit has become a distant memory, the campaign has mostly come to a grinding hault. We had great success with Sylvester McCoy, Christopher Eccleston and, Peter Capaldi. Boy We’ve hit a total brick wall with contacting any of the other Doctors.

He would also love to meet any actor who has been involved with the show.

More recently, Daniel receieved an autograph from Simon Pegg and, a letter from Katy Manning.

The Twitter hashtag #drwhodaniel is still running and we would appreciate it if you could spread the word.

Below are the video messages Daniel has already received.

Henry Cavill wants to be James Bond

It’s well-known that Henry Cavill was once Hollywood’s unluckist actor. He was very nearly Superman in Superman returns, he was very nearly Batman in Batman begins. He was also very nearly James Bond in Casino Royale.

The actor is clearly having success playing Superman, so that rules out Batman. But he still has a keen eye on the role of Bond. Whilst promoting Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on The Graham Norton Show, the actor was asked if he would consider taking over the role. Here’s what he had to say:

“I’m very busy with the Superman stuff, but if there were any windows and they wanted me to do that kind of role, it would be great. I would love to do it.”

Of course, despite speculation, the role is still Daniel Craig’s until he confirms his departure.

Gotham may be getting a spin-off

So, a strange thing has happened. DC have filled copyright on the name ‘Pennyworth’ as in Alfred Pennyworth, the character played by Sean Pertwee.

The copyright is for “production of live-action, dramatic comedy television series”.

Plot details have yet to be revealed but two things are happening, either Sean Pertwee is getting a spin-off, or this prequel series is getting a prequel series.

Brent is back

Below are the first two posters for Life on the road, the big screen spin-off to The Office. Click on the images to enlarge.

Twelve years ago, David Brent (Ricky Gervais) was a regional manager for a mid-level paper merchants.  Now working as a rep selling cleaning (and ladies personal hygiene) products up and down the country, Brent hasn’t given up his dream of becoming a rock star – or more specifically, singer/songwriter for fledgling rock band ‘Foregone Conclusion’.  As he assembles a group of mercenary session musicians, a talented sidekick for street cred and an overpriced yet underwhelmed tour manager, he embarks upon a self-financed UK tour coming to a venue near every major city near you.

Life on the road is out on the 19th of August.
