Blu Ray Review-Justice League vs Teen titans

For the past ten years Warner Bros and DC Comics have been doing a series of straight-to-DVD animated movies. With mixed results. A lot of the output has been outstanding, but some have fallen a little flat. The Batman, Superman, and Justice League titles have all sold well.

But, DC have never really had much confidence with Teen Titans. Their range of films were put on hold, then quickly cancelled.

The film is titled ‘Justice League vs Teen Titans’ but don’t let that fool you, it’s actually Teen Titans featuring a couple of possessed members of the Justice League.

It’s set in the same continuity as Justice League: War and Son of Batman. And picks up right where the latter left off, introducing Damian Wayne (Sturat Allen), the young son that Bruce Wayne (Jason O’Mara) never knew he had.

The film also cherry picks Teen Titans greatest hits. There’s elements from the comics history, thrown in with moments from the two animated TV shows, which ran from 2003-2006.

The Robin in this adventure is Damian Wayne. Whilst assisting his dad and the justice league, he disobeys a direct order and almost ruins the entire mission.

Batman decides to ship Damian off to train with the Teen Titans. Reluctantly, Damian agrees and Nightwing takes him to Titans Tower. Where he meets his new team mates; Starfire, Beast Boy, Blue beetle, and Raven.

It turns out that Raven (Taissa Farmiga) is the daughter of a huge Satanic-like creature named Trigon (Jon Bernthal), whom is not only intent on reclaiming her, but on also enslaving mankind. He omits an ooze, which renders the Justice League under his control. This is where the ‘vs’ comes in, Damian has to put aside his problems with the other Titans and work together to take down Trigon and, the possessed League.

The film is directed by Sam Liu and written by Bryan Q. Miller and Alan Burnett. It manages to balance humour, whilst keeping the threat ever present. Which is something the other vs movie has been critiqued for not doing. It isn’t all perfect, there’s a pointless musical montage that goes on for far too long, whilst the Titans are “bonding”. It also managed to balance some adult themes, that kids won’t get. Dick Grayson very clearly expects to have Skype-sex with Starfire.

The fights are incredibly well-done and entertaining, but much like the other ‘vs’ movie, there’s a lot of style over substance. But I eagerly await the next Titan adventure.

Justice league vs Teen titans is out on Blu-Ray on the 30th of May

Ben Affleck has already co-written a Batman script

Last year, we heard a rumour that Ben Affleck was going to co-write a solo Batman film with legendary DC writer, Geoff Johns. Well, today the Hollywood Reporter has reported that the dynamic duo has completed the first draft and have submitted it to Warner Bros.

THR spoke to Patrick Whitesell (Affleck’s agent) who revealed the following information:

“He’s [Ben Affleck] contracted to do at least Justice League One and Two, so at least three times wearing the cape. There’s a script that he’s written that is a really cool [Batman] idea, so that’s out there as an option.”

It’s no secret that Batman V Superman has received mixed reviews, but Affleck’s Batman has been hailed as “the best Batman we’ve ever seen”. It remains to be seen exactly when Warner Bros. will fit a solo Batman film into their already packed release schedule, but I imagine they’ll find room for it.

Ben Affleck confronts fans who say Superman is better

Last week, we saw Henry Cavill asked kids if they prefer Batman or Superman, this week Ben Affleck hid inside the batmobile during a tour of the warner bros studio and confronted fans who say Superman is better than Batman.

The video made me laugh and, it’s all to raise awareness for a good cause. Find out more information here.

Henry Cavill asks kids if they prefer Batman or Superman

“Who is better Batman or Superman?” That’s a question that comic book geeks have been asking for well over seventy years. We’ve seen them team up many times in comic form, but in just a few short weeks we will see the two icons battle it out on the big screen in, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, and Jesse Eisenberg have partnered with Omaze, to give fans the chance to enter in the “Ultimate Batman v. Superman Experience“.

In participation with Durrell wildlife park, Cavill interviewed a bunch of kids, and asked them who they prefer.

Henry Cavill (Formerly) The unluckiest man in Hollywood

It may seem hard to believe now, but there was a time when Henry Cavill was widely regarded as the unluckiest man in Hollywood. He often made it to the final rounds of consideration, for major franchises. He was so infamous, that I knew about him before I even knew his name.

With the news that Man of Steel 2 has been put on hold until WB get their next slate of movies out. I thought I would take a look back at the five roles Henry Cavill almost had before he represented the house of El.

  1. James Bond-Casino Royale(2006)

After die another day received a critical mauling, Pierce Brosnan was forced to retire his Walther PPK. Which meant Bond had to be rebooted.

Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli managed to whittle down a list to two suave actors to play 007. Those actors were Daniel Craig and Henry Cavill.

Cavill has said in interviews:

“I came very close.”

Ultimately at 22, they decided Cavill was just a bit too young for the role and they instead went with Daniel Craig.

  1. Batman – Batman Begins (2005)

Whilst Cavill states that he didn’t actually test for this, he has confirmed that his name was on a shortlist of actors which included; Joshua Jackson, Eion Bailey, Hugh Dancy, Billy Crudup, Cillian Murphy, Jake Gyllenhaal and, of course, Christian Bale.

  1. Superman – Superman Returns(2006).

You may remember that before Brian Singer helmed Superman Returns, it was set to be directed by McG.

When McG left the project Brian Singer gave Henry Cavill the old tin-tac and he was replaced with Brandon Routh.

  1. Green Lantern/Hal Jordan – Green Lantern (2011)

Cavill’s third unlucky attempt at a superhero movie happened in 2011, with Green Lantern. When casting began in 2009, his name was listed alongside Bradley Cooper, Justin Timberlake, and of course, Ryan Reynolds.

  1. Edward Cullen – Twilight (2008)

Twilight creator, Stephanie Meyer has previously stated that she based the Vampire on Henry Cavill, she even tried to get him cast in the role. Ironically, two short years after he was told he was too young to play Bond, he was told he was too old to play a 200+-year-old vampire and the role went to Robert Pattinson.

Times have sure changed for Henry Cavill. He now has multiple franchises under his belt.

Dean Cain to voice Jonathan Kent

Former Man of Steel, Dean Cain whom older readers may remember from four series of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.
Since hanging up his cape, Cain has appeared in a few episodes of Smallville and is about to be seen in Supergirl playing Kara’s adoptive father. On top of that, he’ll also be voicing Jonathan Kent for DC’s Super Hero Girls.

He broke the news at a recent comic convention.
“I’m actually currently voicing Jonathan Kent, now I’m the dad. It’s called DC Girls, it’s an animated special. I don’t know if it’s going to series yet or not.”

DC Super Hero Girls was announced earlier this year and is targeted towards girls from the age of 6-12, across digital content, television specials, direct-to-DVD features.

Trailer-The Death of superman lives:What happened?

The final trailer has been released for The death of Superman lives:What Happened?

The documentary is directed by Jon Schnepp and is a fascinating look into the failed Tim Burton Superman project.  The Death of Superman Live: What Happened?

It includes interviews with Tim Burton, Jon Peters, screenwriters Kevin Smith and Dan Gilroy, and many, many more more.

As a life long Superman fan, I have long been interested in the details of this failed project. This documentary seems to be the most insightful look we’ll get.

The film is released worldwide onJuly 9th, via streaming, DVD, Blu-ray, and VOD.

Batfleck revealed

Zack Snyder had released the first image of Ben Affleck as Batman. You can’t really see much, but so far, I like what I see. It’s very reminiscent of the costume from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns.
Is that the Joker’s face I spot, just behind Batman?
