Dean Cain to voice Jonathan Kent

Former Man of Steel, Dean Cain whom older readers may remember from four series of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.
Since hanging up his cape, Cain has appeared in a few episodes of Smallville and is about to be seen in Supergirl playing Kara’s adoptive father. On top of that, he’ll also be voicing Jonathan Kent for DC’s Super Hero Girls.

He broke the news at a recent comic convention.
“I’m actually currently voicing Jonathan Kent, now I’m the dad. It’s called DC Girls, it’s an animated special. I don’t know if it’s going to series yet or not.”

DC Super Hero Girls was announced earlier this year and is targeted towards girls from the age of 6-12, across digital content, television specials, direct-to-DVD features.

Eddie Redmayne confirmed for Harry Potter spin-off

Rumours have been rife for months about the casting of the first Harry Potter spin-off, at one point Matt Smith was said to have been cast in the lead role. But, today Warner Bros. has made it official: Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne will play Newt Scamander in Fantastic beasts and where to find them.

The film will mark Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling debut as a screenwriter.
Newt is the world’s preeminent magizoologist and author of a book about the creatures of the wizarding world that all pupils at Hogwarts are required to read. The film is set 70-years before we first meet Harry and is set in New York City. David Yates, whom direct the last four instalments in the Harry Potter franchise is returning to direct.
David Yates said:
“Eddie is a fearless actor, brimming with invention, wit and humanity. I couldn’t be more excited about the prospect of working with him as we start this new adventure in J.K. Rowling’s wonderful world, and I know she feels the same way.”
I’ve only seen three Harry Potter movies and I don’t know which three, so I’m unfamiliar with Newt Scamander, but Redmayne is a bright and talented actor and I’m sure he will excel in the role. I’m glad that they’re universe building here, it would have been all too easy to make a spin-off about Harry’s parents or one of his Hogwarts friends.

The film is expected for worldwide release on November 18th, 2016.

Book review-City of death

Being broadcast during the ITV strike and with there only being three channels at the time, meant that City of death received the highest overnight viewing figures in the history of Doctor Who.

The other side being on strike isn’t the only reason City of death is so well regarded. The iconic shots of Tom Baker and Lalla Ward running through the streets of Paris are beautiful and have resonated throughout the generations, when you include Douglas Adams trademark witty dialogue, you have something that has the right to be called one of the greatest Doctor Who stories ever made.
Novelisations are notoriously tricky, but James Goss does far more than just copy and paste the original source, he has added a whole new dimension to the story which enriches the overall experience.

Goss’ characterisations of the Fourth Doctor and Romana II are fantastic, he fully captures the eccentricities of the long scarf wearing, mad uncle Doctor as well as the sarcastic wit of Romana. Tom Baker and Lalla Ward’s voices rang through my head as I read this book.

My only criticism is that on paper, Duggan comes across as a dim wit, however I don’t think that’s the fault of Goss, I just think that Tom Chadbon added a lot of depth to his performance on screen, that can’t be put on to the page.

Goss has also added some great Easter Eggs in the book, which will have die hard Doctor Who fans beaming from ear-to-ear but won’t distract a person who hasn’t seen the original (yes, sadly those people exist).

City Of Death retains the spirit of the Douglas Adams story, but the author is clearly telling his own story. The result is a beautiful collaboration which I highly recommend.

A message from Eve Myles

Yesterday Eve Myles met Dewi, a 3-year old with CP (Cerebral Palsy), his amazing family are trying to raise money to get him to USA for surgery. Bellow is a message from Eve.

I met the most brave and beautiful family today. Their story absolutely broke my heart. Please take a few minutes to read this.

Dewi is a 3 year old boy with Cerebral Palsy from Pontypridd South Wales. Just like any other 3 year old he dreams of being able to jump, run and ride a bike without pain. Unfortunately Dewi has diaplegia spacicity cerebral palsy. His parents perform daily physio therapy and he has treatment once a week from a physiotherapist but now his parents have discovered an operation called SDR which would help but with limited availability in the UK he’ll need to go to the USA for treatment.
The challenge now is to raise £60,000 to make this happen. Dewi’s brave parents and 8 year old sister (pictured above with young Dewi) are doing what they can to raise money.

Please donate to help this family raise funds for an operation in the USA to help him. Anything you can give will be so gratefully received and can make such a difference.

Go to http://www.justgiving.com/DewisDreams and give what you can and tell your friends. Follow them on twitter @dewisdreams and help spread the word.

Thank you so much!

Love Eve Myles
