Stephen Merchant’s sitcom ‘Hello Ladies’ has been cancelled after just one season.
Hello Ladies was Merchant’s first series without regular co-writer, Ricky Gervais.
The series focused on Merchant’s character Stuart, an awkward Englishman looking for love in California.
A one-off special will be made to wrap up loose ends.

Capaldi’s costume revealed

With filming under way on series 8, it was only a matter of time before we got a glimpse of Peter Capaldi’s costume and here it is below.

I love it. It’s like a modern take on Jon Pertwee’s costume.
Capaldi said of his costume “No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord.”

Series 8 is currently filming and is expected to air in August.

First picture of Capaldi as the Doctor

Filming started today on the first episode of series 8 of Doctor Who. Below is the first picture of Peter Capaldi as The Doctor.

Here’s what the BBC had to say.

“The new Doctor, Peter Capaldi, stepped on set today for his first full day of filming as production begins on series 8 of the hit BBC show.

10.2 million tuned-in on Christmas Day to get their first glimpse of Capaldi in one of TV’s most iconic roles in the festive special ‘The Time of the Doctor’, which saw Matt Smith hang-up his bow tie after 4 years in the role.

Capaldi was revealed as the Doctor in a live BBC One show in August, after months of speculation about the next Doctor’s identity.

Arriving on set in Cardiff to begin filming, Peter Capaldi said:

“New job, first day, slightly nervous. Just like the Doctor, I’m emerging from the TARDIS into a whole other world.”

Steven Moffat, Lead Writer and Executive Producer, added:

“First the eyebrows! Then, at Christmas, the face! Coming soon, the whole Doctor. In the Cardiff studios, the Capaldi era begins.

The first episode of series 8 has been written by Steven Moffat with the second episode by Phil Ford. These are the first episodes that Peter will film and are directed by Ben Wheatley.
This move shatters the tradition of filming the new Doctor, they normally film the fourth and fifth episodes first.

The series is expected to air in August.

Today at the final BFI screening celebrating 50-years of Doctor Who, show runner Steven Moffat revealed that series 8 will not be split and that the full 13 episodes will air consecutively. The news will be welcomed by fans who have felt that the split series has been to the shows detriment.
Series 8 is expected to air in August 2014 and will see Peter Capaldi pick up the search for Gallifrey, with Jenna Coleman as his companion.

Jim Gordon origin series in the works

20130925-025849.jpg

Gotham Central is a long running comic book, about the police department in Gotham city. Fans have long called for a tv series and, with Marvel’s agents of shield launching it seems that fox have listened. Sort of.
The American network have committed to making a tv series about the origins of Commissioner Gordon.

The series will be written by Bruno Heller, former show runner for The Mentalist.
Warner Bros and DC have been in the television business before, with the long running Smallville and now CW’s Arrow, so it will be interesting to see how/if this ties in to the DC universe that’s being built up by Zack Snyder.

Not much is known about the storyline this early on, but a brief description for the series says that in addition to showing the history behind Gordon, it will focus on the villains of Gotham City.

Batfleck speaks

20130917-155605.jpg

Yesterday, Ben Affleck appeared on ‘Late night with Jimmy Fallon’ (American chat show). He discussed his casting and the internets reaction to it.

Affleck said on playing Batman.
“It’s so awesome, I’m so excited. They called me up and said, ‘Do you want to do this?’ And I said ‘I’m not 25, are you sure?’ And they said, ‘Come down, we want to show you what we’re doing.’ And it was incredible.

“Zack [Snyder] is directing it and he’s got this incredible take on it. Obviously he can’t do what Chris [Nolan] and Christian [Bale] did – those movies are amazing – so he wants to do something different but still in keeping with that. And I thought, ‘This is a brilliant way to do this, I really know how to hook into this.’”

On the Internet reaction.
“Before I accepted, they wanted to be sure I was ready. So, they showed me the reaction that-well, I won’t say their names, but other actors have received with their casting. I thought, I’m tough, I handle shit! I clicked online after it was announced and the first comment said Noooooooooooooooo!”

Batman Vs Superman is scheduled to open in July 2015.

Jurassic World

After being in development hell for a number of years, Universal Pictures have finally announced the film title and release date for the third sequel in the Jurassic Park franchise . Jurassic World will arrive, in 3D on June 12th, 2015.
Colin Trevorrow will direct the film and Steven Spielberg will act as producer.

My 6am (pre caffeine) thoughts on Batfleck

In a surprise announcement, Ben Affleck has been revealed as the new Batman, set to star alongside Henry Cavill in “Man of Steel 2,” slated for release on July 19th, 2015.

It’s a testament to Affleck’s rapid ascent as a director that my initial thought upon hearing the news was that he was being announced as the film’s director. While some skeptics have already voiced their disapproval, they were likely the same people who doubted that a skinny Welshman could play Batman, that Gary Oldman was a poor choice for Gordon, and that a muscular Australian could never pull off the Joker.

Affleck’s lifelong love for Batman is well-documented, having even used his first significant paycheck to build himself a Batcave. As an Oscar-winning writer and multi-award winning director, his mere presence on set is sure to elevate everyone behind the scenes to up their game. Now, all he needs to do is buy Zack Snyder a tripod.

If you’re one of the skeptics, just remember the doubts that were raised before Michael Keaton played Batman, before Heath Ledger portrayed the Joker, before Gary Oldman embodied Gordon, before Anne Hathaway donned the Catwoman costume, before Matt Smith became the Doctor, and before Daniel Craig stepped into the role of James Bond.

Personally, I think Affleck is an excellent choice, and I can’t wait to see him don the cape and cowl.

Matt Smith rumoured to be leaving Doctor Who

There’s a rumour doing the rounds that an email was “accidentally” sent from BBC worldwide to employees confirming that series 8 will consist of 12 episodes (including the 2014 Christmas special) and feature a new Doctor.
The series is said to air in August 2014. Which, if true would mean Matt Smith is going at Christmas and a 15 month gap between series 7 and series 8.

A reduced episode run would make sense. The split was budgetary and hasn’t proved popular. Luther, Merlin and Being Human all had their episodes reduced in their hight of popularity.

An official announcement is being made by the BBC, at midnight.
