WB looking to reboot The Matrix

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Brothers is reportedly developing a new film in The Matrix franchise, which includes the successful trilogy: The Matrix (1999), The Matrix Reloaded (2003), and The Matrix Revolutions (2003). However, the Wachowski siblings, who wrote and directed the original trilogy, are not yet involved in the project.

During the promotion of John Wick 2, Keanu Reeves was asked if he would consider returning for a Matrix sequel. He responded by saying that the Wachowskis would have to be involved in writing and directing, and that he would need to see the story before committing.

It is currently unknown if the film would be a soft reboot, involving Neo’s character, or if it would focus on a new character. However, Michael B. Jordan has been rumoured to be in consideration for the lead role.

Personally, I believe that The Matrix doesn’t necessarily need a reboot or a remake. Nonetheless, given that the original film is now 18 years old, there’s a new generation of viewers who may not have had the chance to experience it, which could explain why Warner Bros is considering it.

Big Finish feels the Burn

Big Finish, the renowned audio production company, has just announced exciting news for Torchwood fans: Burn Gorman is set to reprise his role as Owen Harper in their upcoming range of audios.

Gorman’s first audio appearance will be in Corpse Day, set for release in May. Torchwood fans will no doubt be thrilled to hear that the talented actor is returning to the role of Owen Harper, adding even more depth and intrigue to the already beloved character.

Burn’s first audio, will be Corpse Day, which will be released in May.

Producer James Goss said:

“We’ve been trying to get Burn Gormansince we started. We’ve been hunting him across the globe, from Man In The High Castle to And Then There Were None, and we kept getting so close – and then he vanished into the depths of Hungary to make a film for months – but as soon as the project wrapped he was raring to go”

Goss added:

“Watching him recreate Torchwood’s sour zombie doctor was amazing – it was impossible to think that this was the same man who’d had us all giggling moments before. It was one of the most delightful days we’ve had on Torchwood – we put him together with Tom Price and just left them to it. Owen Harper is back from the dead, and he’s deader than ever. If you’ve never tried a Torchwood, I beg you to try Corpse Day. It’s pretty much everything.”

Here’s the synopsis:

Glynn Lewis is just putting up a spice rack when there’s a knock at the door. A knock that will bring a brutal end to his perfect family.

PC Andy is very excited. It’s Corpse Day – the day when the local constabulary gets help on dead cases from Torchwood. This year, he’s volunteered to act as a liaison, and he knows he’s going to have a brilliant time.

For Dr Owen Harper, today’s just like any other. There’ll be bloodshed, screaming and murder. At the end of it all, he doesn’t care. After all, life’s just for the living, and he’s long dead.

Christopher Eccleston regrets not doing more Doctor Who

Long-term readers may remember that way back in 2011, Christopher Eccleston told us that he left Doctor Who, because of the “bullying ” during the production.

Over the years, he’s expanded on this. But recently during an interview with 774 ABC Melbourne, he expressed regret in not staying on for another series.

He said:

“It was kind of tragic for me, that I didn’t play him for longer. He’s a beautiful character and I have a great deal of professional pride and had I done a second season, there would have been a marked improvement in my performance. I was learning new skills, in terms of playing light comedy. I was not known for light comedy and again, production did not allow for that. It’s very important that on a first series you make an informed and intelligent choice, even if it means breaking the budget, about getting the first director who is going to set the tone for the season, how the actors relate and that did not happen. Disaster.

But, the show has survived. Thank god. Capaldi and Matt and David are just brilliant and, I Know how brilliant they are. Because I’ve been inside it. I know how difficult it is.”

Sean Pertwee reveals he was asked to be in Doctor Who

Since Doctor Who returned to our screens in 2005, we’ve seen the appearance of both of Patrick Troughton’s sons. Fans have often expressed their desire to have Sean Pertwee appear-in either a cameo or as the third Doctor.

In a recent interview with the radio times, Pertwee revealed that he was actually approached to appear in series 9. But due to his commitments with Gotham, he was unable to do so.

Here’s what he had to say:

“I’ve been asked before – I was asked actually last season. I couldn’t do it because of Gotham. I’d love to be in some capacity be involved, as an ode to my father and to Roger Delgado, who was my dad’s best friend, who was the Master.

It’d be an honour to be involved in something like that. You know, it’s a big thing! Doctor Who’s a massive thing in America now, and also they’re looking to the older Doctors, which I think is really kinda cool. They’re looking back as well, not just forward.”

Sexism in Hollywood and Feminist Thumbs

As we all know, sexism in the film industry continues to deny talented female filmmakers the opportunity to make the films they want to.

British indie director Rachel Tunnard has made a short video of two thumbs discussing sexism in Hollywood. The thumb to the right is a young female filmmaker with dreams of directing the kinds of films that studios and producers too often prevent women from making. The thumb to the right is playing devil’s advocate and slowly eroding that dream – simply and hilariously speaking it as it is.
