Star Wars: Episode VIII was due for a worldwide release in May 2017 but instead will not be released until December of the same year. Disney haven’t yet said why the film is being delayed, but rumours started to grow this week about possible re-writes due to the semi-backlash the force awakens received.
Production is set to begin next month at Pinewood Studios.
Personally, I’m happy to wait for December. December just feels right for a Star Wars movie. I grew up in the 80’s, where the original trilogy played on ITV every Christmas. So to me, Star Wars has always been something that airs at Christmas.
With Rogue One also set for a December release, I think Disney should concentrate on putting all the Star Wars movies out at this time of year.
