Aidan Turner now bookies favourite for James Bond

Over the past few weeks, we’ve heard a few names thrown around in regards to James Bond.  Ladbrokes have now added a “odds-on” favourite for the role.

Irish actor Aidan Turner (Poldark, Being Human), is now the top contender. A spokesperson for Ladbrokes said:

“Money talks, and it’s the Poldark man that punters want as their next Bond. Turner’s been shaking and stirring the betting for the last week and it’s not a huge surprise to see he’s been backed into odds-on.”

I interviewed Aidan at the recent MCM Expo, interestingly, the press were banned from asking him about James Bond…

Spider-Man 4 concept art

Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 has fallen into the same category, with the likes of Tim Burton’s Superman Lives. Fans have discussed “what if…” on various forums and podcasts.

Sony started plans for a fourth movie featuring Toby MaGuire as the infamous web-Crawler, shortly after the release of Spider-Man 3, but creative differences led to a falling out between the director and studio. In the years since, we”ve had conformation that the Vulture would have been the villain. Recently, artist Jeffrey Henderson has revealed some of his own artwork that shows Mysterio would have also appeared.

Pearl Mackie announced as new companion

The BBC have announced that Pearl Mackie has been cast as Bill-the new companion, in the next series of Doctor Who.

The Brixton born actress is currently starring in the critically acclaimed production, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. At the Gielgud Theatre, in the West End.

Mackie said:

“I’m incredibly excited to be joining the Doctor Who family,” she said. “It’s such an extraordinary British institution, I couldn’t be prouder to call the Tardis my home. Peter Capaldi is such a brilliant actor, and his Doctor is such a wacky and wonderful character, I can’t wait to see what adventures are in store for him and Bill throughout time and space. Reading the script at the audition I thought Bill was wicked. Fantastically written, cool, strong, sharp, a little bit vulnerable with a bit of geekiness thrown in – I can’t wait to bring her to life, and to see how she develops through the series.

I always loved stage combat at drama school so I can’t wait to get on set and kick some evil monsters into the next dimension!

Shooting the trailer was absolutely mental, there were pyro technics and smoke and I met my first Dalek! I’m not sure it will ever become ‘the norm’ seeing crazy monsters on set, but I cannot wait to meet some more! The weirder the better, bring it on!”

Peter Capaldi added:

It is a genuine delight to welcome Pearl Mackie to Doctor Who. A fine, fine actress with a wonderful zest and charm, she’s a refreshing addition to the TARDIS and will bring a universe of exciting new possibilities to The Doctor’s adventures.

Confirmed: Ben Affleck directing a Batman movie

It was finally confirmed last night that a standalone Batman movie co-written, starring and, directed by Ben Affleck is officially in development. Warner Bros. boss Kevin Tsujihara took to the stage at CinemaCon to break the news.

Speculation that Affleck would direct the project, has been circling for about a year now. But this announcement is the first official confirmation.

Reactions to Batman V Superman have been mixed. But Affleck was universally praised for his debut as the Caped Crusader.

No further details were given on the production, but it’s thought that a new Batman could be one of the two as-yet untitled DC movies already given a release date — if so, Batfleck could be back in the cowl on either October 5th, 2018, or November 1st, 2019. Personally, I think Batman will be 2018, with Suicide Squad 2 in 2019.

Spider-Man reboot rumoured to be called Spider-Man:Homecoming

Tom Holland is about to make his debut as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. The character will also star in his own MCU connected, solo movie in 2017, directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car). However; specific information on the reboot remain tightly under wraps at the joint Marvel/Sony compound.

rumoured titles such as; The Spectacular Spider-Man, and Spider-Man: The New Avenger have been doing th rounds since the Sony/Marvel deal was announced.

According to the BBC, Sony Pictures  have registered the domain name ‘SpiderManHomecomingTheMovie.com’. Which seems to suggest that Spider-Man: Homecoming could in fact be the upcoming film reboot. However, that doesn’t guarantee it. Studios will often register multiple domain names, just in case.

Meet the cast of Doctor Who spin-off, Class

The wait is over, we finally have our first look at the cast of Class.

Class takes place in the same universe as Doctor Who and, is set in contemporary London at Coal Hill School. The eight-part series starts filming in a few weeks.

On the first day of term, BBC Three today announce the stars of the Doctor Who spin-off series Class – exciting young new talents Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins and Vivian Oparah. They will be joined by Katherine Kelly, as she takes the role of a teacher and powerful new presence at Coal Hill School.

Like all sixth formers, these four Coal Hill School students have hidden secrets and desires. They are facing their own worst fears, navigating a life of friends, parents, school work, sex, sorrow – and possibly the end of existence.

Coal Hill School has been a part of the Doctor Who Universe since the very beginning, but that has come at a price. All the time travelling over the years has caused the very walls of space and time to become thin. There’s something pressing in on the other side, something waiting for its chance to kill everyone and everything, to bring us all into Shadow.

Fear is coming, tragedy is coming, war is coming. Prepare yourselves, Class is coming.

Class creator Patrick Ness, says:

“We searched far and wide for this amazing cast, fantastic actors who understand what we’re aiming for with this show. And how lucky we are to get Katherine Kelly! She’s been stunning in Happy Valley, The Night Manager and Mr Selfridge, just wait until you see her here.”

Steven Moffat, Class and Doctor Who Executive Producer, says:

“There’s nothing more exciting than meeting stars that nobody’s heard of yet. We had the read through of the first few episodes last week, and there was a whole row of them. Coal Hill School has been part of Doctor Who since the very first shoot in 1963, but this new show is anything but history. Class is dark and sexy and right now. I’ve always wondered if there could be a British Buffy – it’s taken the brilliant Patrick Ness to figure out how to make it happen.”

Class is a YA series set in contemporary London. It is scary, funny, and as painful and sharp as youth. It will also shine a light on a whole new corner of the Whoniverse.

Damian Kavanagh, Controller, BBC Three, adds:

“I can’t wait for Class to arrive on BBC Three. BBC Three will always back best young British talent.”

BBC Three announced the cast in a 360 video.
