Understandably, any movie’s opening weekend is incredibly important at the box office. However, the films the second weekend is often an indication of the films staying power.
Last week, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice broke records by opening with $166 million at the US box office last weekend, but it has suffered a sharp and signifigent 69% drop this weekend.
The Hollywood Reporter sat down with Warner Bros. domestic distribution chief Jeff Goldstein, who said the studio isn’t concerned about such a big drop:
“We’re not concerned with the drop. No matter how you slice it, to get to $52 million on any given weekend is an enormous accomplishment. We’re most focused on where we are in total. And our global number is huge.”
To be fair, he has a point, the global box office figure currently stands at $682.3 million.
