The Sony hack continues to reveal intriguing details about Marvel’s plans for Spider-Man. Recently, it was revealed that Marvel approached Sony about including the web-slinger in “Captain America: Civil War” and the two-part “Avengers: Infinity War.”
According to reports, Marvel wanted to launch a new Spider-Man series following his appearance in “Civil War.” Although the new films wouldn’t directly continue the “Civil War” plot, it would be clear that they existed in the same universe.
In the proposed storyline, Tony Stark recruits Spider-Man for the Avengers, and he joins them on a mission before returning to Sony for his own solo movie. After that, he would return to assist in the two-part “Avengers: Infinity War,” with Sony releasing a second Spider-Man movie in 2019.
While the idea of Spider-Man teaming up with the Avengers is exciting, some fans lament the loss of Andrew Garfield, who played the role in the previous two movies. He was the saving grace of those films. Regardless, it remains to be seen who will ultimately don the Spider-Man suit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
